This cookie is very similar to one I loved growing up in an Italian -American household called Anginettes, but different.

This recipe came from my mom’s cookbook and can be found under several other names including “Pennsylvania Dutch Chocolate Funny Cake” and Mennonite Funny Cake Pie. But in my Mom’s cookbook it was just Funny Cake.
