Korean BBQ Chicken
Experience the bold and spicy flavors of Korean cuisine with this delicious BBQ chicken recipe. Featuring a homemade marinade with gochujang, gochugaru (Korean chili flake), and sesame oil, this dish delivers an authentic taste. Use chicken thighs, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and honey for a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
Ingredients
1 ½ lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs (or breasts)
2 tbsp neutral oil (for cooking)
1 tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)
Marinade:
¼ cup soy sauce
2 tbsp honey (or brown sugar)
1 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
1 tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, optional for spice)
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp rice vinegar
3 cloves garlic, minced
1-inch ginger, grated
1 tbsp Hoisin Sauce
½ tsp black pepper
Directions
Prepare the chicken – Slice the chicken into bite-sized pieces or keep whole for grilling.
Make the marinade – In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, gochujang, gochugaru, sesame oil, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, mirin, and black pepper.
Marinate – Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring it’s well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (overnight for deeper flavor).
Cook the chicken:
Grill method – Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for 4-5 minutes per side until slightly charred and cooked through.
Pan-seared method – Heat a pan over medium-high heat with oil. Cook the chicken for 3-4 minutes per side, until caramelized and cooked through.
Air Fryer- Roast 375F for 15 minutes turning half way through
Garnish & serve – Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve with steamed rice, kimchi, and fresh lettuce leaves for wrapping!
