Perfect for grilling or baking, this barbecue chicken is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken breasts or thighs (bone-in or boneless, your choice)

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Pat the chicken dry with paper towels. Drizzle with olive oil, then sprinkle with garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Rub the seasoning evenly on both sides.

  2. Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high heat (or preheat your oven to 400°F if baking).

  3. Cook the Chicken: Place the chicken on the grill or in an oven-safe dish. Grill each side for about 5-7 minutes (or bake for 25-30 minutes), depending on the thickness of the chicken. Check that the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

  4. Add BBQ Sauce: Brush barbecue sauce generously on the chicken during the last 5-7 minutes of cooking. If grilling, flip and brush the other side with sauce as well. Let the sauce caramelize slightly but be careful not to burn it.

  5. Rest and Serve: Remove the chicken from the grill or oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side, if desired.
