This recipe uses simple ingredients and delivers restaurant-quality results, perfect for a family dinner or game-day feast.
Ingredients
1 lb 80/20 ground beef
½ onion, finely chopped
5 to 6 cloves garlic, minced
Salt & pepper (to taste)
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp Italian seasoning
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
½ cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 jar of your favorite marinara or pasta sauce
Hoagie rolls
Mayonnaise (for spreading)
Butter (softened, for spreading)
Provolone cheese slices
Shredded mozzarella
Extra Parmesan (for topping)
Directions
In a little olive oil, sauté your finely chopped onion and minced garlic until softened and fragrant. Let it cool slightly.
In a large bowl, combine your ground beef, sautéed onion and garlic, salt, pepper, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, Parmesan cheese, fresh parsley, breadcrumbs, and the egg. Mix until just combined—don’t overwork it.
Roll into meatballs (about golf ball size). Sauté them in a hot pan with a little oil until browned on all sides and cooked through. Pour in your marinara sauce and let the meatballs simmer on low for about 10 minutes to soak up the flavor.
Split your hoagie rolls, spread the inside with a mix of mayo and butter, and toast them in the oven at 400°F until golden. Add your meatballs to the toasted rolls. Top with provolone slices, shredded mozzarella, and a little extra Parmesan. Pop the subs back in the oven just until the cheese is melted and gooey.
