Caz’s Easy Cornbread

Sometimes the dishes people remember don’t require a lot of time or ingredients. On this weeks LIVE Caz (@Cooking_with_Caz) shares a few of his favorite dishes for those who need some quick and simple side dishes. First up was his Easy Cornbread  which he used for his cornbread dressing. Then we went on to do a “stove top” Candied Sweet Potatoes shared shared here.

Caz’s Easy Cornbread

Ingredients

  • 2c Self-rising Cornmeal 

  • 1½c Buttermilk 

  • 1 egg (beaten)

  • 3 Tbsp shortening 

Preparation:

  1. Preheat cast-iron skillet to 425⁰ in oven with shortening. 

  2. Add all other ingredients to mixing bowl.  

  3. All shortening to cool slightly and add into mixture and incorporate. 

  4. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes until I toothpick comes out clean.
