Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie

This is the recipe for Caramel Apple Cinnamon Roll pie that @OctoberDragonfly recently posted on tiktok. I asked Christine to tell us about the concept for it

This one was just one of those happy accidents. It was a night when I promised I’d make apple pie for dessert and realized I had ran out of flour. Could I have just went to the store and gotten some…. ? Yes, but I just didn’t want to after working all day. So I pivoted my way of thinking while digging through the fridge & found that I had 2 pkgs of cinnamon rolls. I improvised and came up with caramel apple cinnamon roll pie. It turned out amazing. It gets requested a lot. The caramel is from Bequet. I work for the company who owns it. That made the caramel just the perfectly available and simple addition. This dessert will not let you down it has lots of yummy flavors and can easily be topped w ice cream. I hope you try and enjoy this family favorite.

Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 2 pkg cinnamon rolls (regular size) save the icing for the topping

  • 2-3 apples of choice sliced (we used lg honey crisp)

  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon (more if you like)

  • 1 Tbsp apple pie spice

  • 2 Tbsp sugar

  • 1 Tbsp vanilla

  • 1 tsp cream of tartar

  • 2 tbsp flour

  • 1-4 oz package Bequet  classic or Celtic sea salt caramel unwrapped and cut into half

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350°

  2. Butter a standard pie dish/plate

  3. Open the first pkg of cinnamon rolls. On a rolling mat,  place one cinnamon roll in the middle

  4. Unroll the next one & wrap it around the first one. Then continue with each one after that creating a giant cinnamon roll.

  5. Next with a rolling pin flatten the giant cinnamon roll.Place the inverted buttered pie dish/plate over the flattened cinnamon roll and flip it into the pie dish/plate making sure it is stretched to the edges.

  6. In a bowl combine apple slices, cinnamon, apple pie spice, sugar, vanilla, flour, & cream of tartar. Hand Mix gently until the apples are coated. Add a layer of apple mixture to the pie crust. Add 1/2 of the caramel, then add the rest of the apples, & the rest of the caramel.

  7. Open the second package of cinnamon rolls and unroll each one. Then cut each one in half. Create a lattice or crisscrossed pattern saving one to use around edge. When attaching the final piece of dough twist it with the pieces that over hanging from the lattice pattern.

  8. Bake in a 350° oven for 30mins covers w aluminum foil the 10-15 mins uncovered to brown the top.

  9. Let cool 30 mins

  10. Use the icing from the cinnamon roll pkg to drizzle over each slice when served
