Biscuits and Sausage Gravy
Ingredients
Biscuits
2 cups all purpose flour
1 ½ tbs baking powder
1 tsp sugar
½ cup (1 stick) very cold butter
½ cup heavy whipping cream (minus 1 tbs)
½ cup milk (minus 1 tbs)
1 tbs melted butter
Sausage Gravy
1 lb sausage (whatever type of ground sausage you prefer)
¼ cup flour
2 cups milk
Salt and pepper to your taste
Directions
Biscuits: Preheat oven to 450 degrees
Combine flour, baking powder and sugar in a mixing bowl and whisk together.
Cut butter into small cubes and combine into mixture using a pastry cutter until the butter becomes no larger than a pea.
Add in milk and whipping cream together to combine. (If too sticky to handle, add about 1-2tbs more flour at a time until able to handle.
Spread out dough on floored surface and shape into a rectangle. Fold over dough and reshape 3 to 4 more times.
Use a biscuit cutter or circle cookie cutter to cut out biscuits. If using a cookie cutter, do not twist as it will mess up your layering. Should make 10-12 biscuits depending on thickness.
Bake at 450 for 12-15 minutes until tops are golden brown. Brush melted butter over the tops of the biscuits.
Sausage Gravy: Brown your sausage in a medium skillet over medium heat.
Add ¼ cup flour to undrained sausage and allow the flour to soak up all the excess grease.
Add in 2 cups milk. Cook stirring occasionally over medium heat. Once it begins to thicken, lower the heat to medium low.
Add salt and pepper to taste
Add sausage gravy over the biscuits and enjoy!
