Octoberdragonfly’s Heavenly Treat Bars

As @Octoberdragonfly got ready for our weekly TikTok Live on June 12th. Inspiration struck and as result a new family tradition begins. Christine ( aka Octoberdragonfly) not only a creative wiz in the kitchen. She also happens to be our own “Willy Wonka”. Yes she has the dream opportunity to work with candy and confections full time. So while its still hard work, many of us still fondly recall the memories of going to the candy store. You can see all the creative sweets and treats at Doscher’s Candy or follow them on Instagram and Facebook (Editors Note)

Sometimes recipes are developed on the fly …

The heavenly treat bar was born from a challenge from work. The rules were simple, make a treat using our Béquet caramel and everything has to be peanut free. Ok, well that drove me to find out what snacks and candies were made in a peanut free environment.  After some research I found several companies that are well know were in fact peanut free facilities. Goldfish crackers, all varieties of rice Chex, Snyders Pretzels, Smart food popcorn, jet puff marshmallows and Hershey chocolate kisses are a few. These are what I chose to create a snack mix or trail mix for the challenge at work. That recipe is simply one cup of each mixed together in a large Gallon sized bag.

Then I decided to take it one step further on a whim and create a treat bar using these products. Please use this as your own starting place and create your own personal version.

Ingredients

  • 1 & 1/2 bags of Jet Puffed marshmallows

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

  • 2 cups Smart foods Sea salt popcorn

  • 2 cups Snyder’s butter snap pretzels

  • 2-4 oz halved Hershey kisses

  • 2 cups chocolate Rice Chex

  • 1 cup of mini marshmallows

Preparation

  1. Starting with a medium low large pan melt marshmallows and butter. Once that was half way through the melting process add 4 oz of Béquet Celtic Sea Salt caramel.

  2. When the mixture is thoroughly melted, turn the heat to warm and started adding the popcorn, pretzels, Hershey kisses and chocolate Rice Chex and the mini marshmallows.

  3. Stirring until everything is well coated with the caramel marshmallow mixture.

  4. Transfer to a buttered 9x13 baking dish.

  5. Let this cool for about an hour (but I will tell you now it’s so very hard to wait….. bc its so good!)
