Hey everyone! My name is Chris aka ThatsoChris77 on TikTok in and around the food community there.
I grew up in the Brooklyn/Queens area of NYC. I currently reside in Upstate NY of the Mid-Hudson Valley region.
When it comes to food, I ‘am definitely no stranger. I've been surrounded by food since I was a child. It was a mix of so many different cultures. Growing up in a big Italian family, where the paternal side made basic Italian things, and the maternal side made very traditional and very Italian cultured food, you are definitely going to know how to cook. My paternal Grandfather was Polish and the traditional Polish food was also strong as well. My uncle, who married my mother’s sister who was Puerto Rican, his mother showed my Aunt how to make many different dishes as well as showed me as I remember eating as a kid.
I had such a love for Puerto Rican food and the culture that it won my heart because my Uncle’s mother and Aunts hearts cooked with love and it was all about family just like Italians are both the same way.
I was surrounded by amazing great cooks in my family, who owned restaurants, and those who didn’t, still were amazing cooks. It was hard to keep up with how many great cooks surrounded me, there were so many!
My maternal grandmother and her sisters were amazing bakers. My wonderful memories of being a child are watching all three sisters make all these amazing Calabrian desserts during Christmastime. My mother had baked frequently as well. That is why baking and confectionery are a specialty of mine.
I worked at my friend’s restaurant as a cook and learned a lot from him. My love of cooking is as equal as is with cakes/decorating. I feel that I ‘am well-rounded.
I truly believe food is memories, which bring friends and family, and loved ones together. When I see people laughing around food, and eating it with smiles, and loving what they are eating I genuinely know they are happy and that makes me happy too!
