Welcome to the ultimate cooking showdown! Tricia a.k.a. SketchyChef and a different talented chef each week will battle it out in a culinary competition like no other. In this hour-long show, they will have to use a secret dish or ingredient that will be revealed 1 week before they start cooking. Who can create the most delicious meal with the secret ingredient? Will the challenger beat FoodTokTV? Tune in to find out!
The Challenger: Mari: A City Girls Kitchen
Let’s start by introducing myself,
My name is Mari, I have been a vegetarian for 8 years. I am from Chicago, Illinois.
I grew up in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. When I was a child, we had a large Puerto Rican community. I grew up with both Mexican and Puerto Rican cultures. I remember visiting my best friend, and going straight to the kitchen to see what her mom had cooked. I had no interest in learning to cook. I did love food though!
The fondest memories that I often reminisce upon, are when in summer break, mom would always take us to North Ave beach in downtown Chicago. Another fond memory is when we would go do laundry with mom, she had to take all of us with her. I’m the oldest and at that time I was about 6 years old, I was responsible for carrying the laundry detergent. When mom was done doing laundry we would go across the street to a tiny Puerto Rican place, mom would buy us an alcapurria, I can still remember the scent of all of the delicious food lol.
I had such wonderful role models in my life, I never felt that I was treated different when I was with our Puerto Rican family, we became a family.
At the age of 15 is when I started having interest in cooking 🧑🏽🍳 It was a fire in my soul that couldn’t be extinguished, I wanted more and more. Cooking became my passion and I do enjoy cooking for my family and friends.
The beginning of 2022 I joined the TIKTok community and have enjoyed every minute of it. I love sharing my recipes!
I always say: “We work together, not against each other” if we unite and work together we will grow together. After all we do share the same home, so why not share the love we have with each other.
