Pumpkin Spice Bourbon Sour

This pumpkin spice sour is a creative fall take on the whiskey sour classic! Homemade pumpkin spice syrup is shaken with bourbon, lemon, and egg white.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 ounces of bourbon

  • 1 ounce of fresh lemon juice

  • 1 egg white

  • ½ cup of ice

  • 3 dashes of bitters of choice

  • Cocktail shaker, double strainer, and a chilled glass

  • 1 ounce of 1 ounce of pumpkin spice syrup (see recipe below) (see recipe below)

    Pumpkin Spice Syrup

  • 1 cup water

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup white sugar

  • ½ cup pumpkin purée

  • 1 tsp ground cloves

  • 1 tsp ground ginger

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Fine mesh strainer and cheesecloth

Directions

  1. To make the pumpkin spice sryup:

Add the sugar and water to a pot. Bring it to a soft boil, then reduce to low heat and let it simmer for 20 minutes, stirring frequently.

Strain the mixture using a cheesecloth and a fine mesh strainer to remove the pulp and any remaining sugar granules.

Once strained, transfer the syrup to a container. It will keep for 2 to 3 weeks in the fridge.

  2. To make the cocktail:

In a cocktail shaker, combine the bourbon, egg white, pumpkin spice syrup, and lemon juice. Do a dry shake (without ice) for 8 to 10 seconds to emulsify the egg white.

  3. Open the shaker, add the ice, and shake again for about 10 seconds.

  4. Strain the cocktail using a double strainer into a coupe glass or glass of choice. A foam layer will naturally form on top.

  5. Add a few dashes of bitters on top of the foam. Using a toothpick or the end of a spoon, swirl the bitters to create a decorative pattern. Enjoy!
