Cheesy Sausage Tortellini Bake

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or sweet, your choice)

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara or pasta sauce

  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained

  • 1 package (19 oz) refrigerated or frozen cheese tortellini

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional)

  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes

 

Directions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a large skillet, cook the Italian sausage and the onion until the meat is browned. Add the garlic and cook for 3 minutes.

  3. Stir in the marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, heavy cream, Italian seasoning, sugar and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.

  4. While the sauce simmers, cook the tortellini in boiling water for 2-3 minutes (or until they float). Drain and set aside.

  5. In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, layer half of the sauce mixture, followed by the cooked tortellini. Sprinkle 1 cup of mozzarella cheese on top. Add the remaining sauce and finish with the rest of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

  6. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
