Macerated Berries

These macerated berries make a great topping for pancakes, waffles, cakes, and so much more! Berries and sugar, and for more flavor you can add juice, cinnamon, liqueur, or vanilla

Ingredients

  • 2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries)

  • 2–3 tablespoons granulated sugar (adjust to taste)

  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice or orange juice (optional)

  • Optional: 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, a splash of liqueur (like Grand Marnier), or a pinch of cinnamon

Directions

  1. Wash the berries thoroughly and pat them dry. If using strawberries, hull and slice them into halves or quarters.

  2. Place the berries in a bowl and sprinkle the sugar evenly over the top. Add lemon juice or any optional flavorings, if desired.

  3. Toss the berries gently with a spoon or spatula to coat them evenly with sugar.

  4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid. Let the berries rest at room temperature for 20–30 minutes, or refrigerate for up to 2 hours.

  5. Serve the macerated berries on their own, over pancakes, waffles, yogurt, ice cream, or as a topping for cakes and pastries.

*Tip: For a deeper flavor, let the berries macerate longer in the refrigerator—up to 4 hours.
