Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, melted

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 4 teaspoons sugar

  • 4 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 ¾ cup buttermilk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven 450 degrees. Make sure rack is in center of oven for baking.

Melt the butter and place into 8x8 baking dish

  2. Make the batter: In a small bowl, mix dry ingredients. Add buttermilk and combine, careful not to overmix. Clumps are okay.

  3. Gently spread out with spatula into 8x8 getting to all of the edges and corners.

Cut dough into nine equal pieces so butter can get into the cracks.

  4. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown on top.

  5. Remove from oven and allow to sit for five minutes to allow for soaking up of butter. Cut and serve with jelly, honey, or gravy.
