Quick and Delicious Southern-Style Black-Eyed Peas with Smoked Bacon Lardons in a Crockpot Turbo Express Pressure Cooker

📖 Ingredients:

  • 1 cup black-eyed peas

  • 6 cups no-salt vegetable stock

  • 1/4 cup sliced smoked bacon lardons or 1 smoked ham-hock

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

📖 Recipe:

  1. On your Crockpot Turbo Express, hit the “Manual Button”, then hit the “Brown/Sauté” button. Hit “Start/Stop” to start the heating up process.

  2. While that is heating up, prepare your onion and smoked bacon lardons or smoked ham-hocks. Make sure to dice everything in small pieces.

  3. Once the Crockpot Turbo Express has heated, add your prepared onion, smoked bacon lardons/smoked ham-hocks, and seasonings.

  4. Cook until onion is translucent and the smoked bacon lardons/smoked ham-hocks have browned and started releasing their fat.

  5. Once done, add your beans and no-salt vegetable stock.

  6. Close the lid on your Crockpot Turbo Express.

  7. Shut the valve on your Crockpot Turbo Express.

  8. Now clear all settings on your Crockpot Turbo Express by hitting the “Start/Stop” button.

  9. Hit “Manual” again on your Crockpot Turbo Express.

  10. Then hit “Turbo Express” or “Pressure Cook”.

  11. Make sure it’s on HIGH Pressure and set the time for 45 minutes.

  12. Then hit the “Start/Stop” button again. Allowing the pressure to build and the machine to cook your beans.

  13. Note: you need that amount of liquid for your beans. This is so they can cook thoroughly and allow the Crockpot Turbo Express to have enough liquid to cook properly and not worry about valve leakage in the end.

  14. Once done, turn the Crockpot Turbo Express valve to open and allow steam and pressure to escape.

  15. Once all pressure and steam has been released from your Crockpot Turbo Express, remove the lid away from you do you don’t burn yourself from excess steam or water droplets.

  16. Stir your beans and serve with some of my Granny Sue’s Cornbread!

  17. Enjoy!

    Delicious!
