Loaded Sausage, Cheese & Jalapeño Biscuits

Ingredients

  • ½ lb browned ground sausage

  • 8 oz grated cheddar cheese

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 4 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1¾ cups buttermilk

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 jalapeño deseeded & diced (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven: Set your oven to 450°F
(230°C).

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

  3. Pour the buttermilk into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The dough will be slightly lumpy.

  4. Prepare baking dish: Pour the melted butter into an 8x8 inch baking dish.

  5. Pour the dough over the melted butter in the baking dish. Use a spatula to spread the dough evenly to the edges of the pan.

  6. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 9 squares.

  7. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.

  8. Let the biscuits cool slightly in the pan before serving. Enjoy warm with butter, jam, or your favorite topping!
